Tour of Kansas City '07
After the trip up from the Rock Town, Jason and I made our way to our annual host family, make that kick ass host family, the Wallaces. And yes, the first thing that comes to mind is Marcellus Wallace Pulp Fiction. The family, including Chris who races for Team X Cycling are close relatives of the Wallace empire, ah, I feel safe here. If you have been locked in a cave since before 1994 here is a picture of Marcellus:
Tonight was the first of three races of the Tour of Kansas City. It was an 8:30pm 70 minute crit , 95 degrees. Our Mercy teams usually shows up with good numbers and this year I believe we have ten guys. The course was about 2 minutes/lap long at an average speed of 26 mph, it also includes two good climbs, especially by crit standards. Despite several attacks no breaks stuck until a few laps to go, that one included Brian Jenson, the overall winner of the past two years and eventual winner of tonights race. He got the number one spot just ahead of U23 Time Trial National Champion Nick Fry. Mercy rider Matt Ankney was 5th and Surfer Nick 6th. I round out the top 20 in 17 or so, 75 started the event. Jason blacked out with 15 minutes to go and had to pull out of the race and go get one of those oxygen masks your grandma wears, hopefully he will be all gravy from here on out.
After Jason and I had our 4th meal at Taco Bell, the only bloody thing open its now time for some shut eye and to get ready for tomorrows 50 mile circuit race which includes a very steep climb, every lap, for 18 laps. Goodnight.
