Twitter sure is getting in the way of my Blogger. Weird, that sentence sounds like a babies first with a bunch of fake words. Anyway- we are here at Joe Martin, although it doesn't feel that way because I am out of my normal routine. Usually it's a semester of school, spring break, collegiate racing, Tour of the Gila, then finally Joe Martin. This year my preparation highlights include a few Tuesday Night Worlds and watching the 1976 Paris-Roubaix on DVD.
Thursday was the opening hill climb time trial here at Joe Martin Stage Race. It's my 'home race' so I have to do it, form or no form. The TT actually went alright, I am well rested to say the least. I was hopping to ride a 9:47 for the 2.5 mile climb. I did a 9:38 during the 2008 edition. To my surprise I somehow pulled out a 9:22, but that was only good enough for 102nd in the Pro field. With guys like Ben Jaques-Maynes (eventual winner at 8:03), Floyd Landis, Rory Sutherland and another hundred fast dudes it was stacked. Hell, even the reigning Criterium National Champion Rahsaan Bahati was time cut, along with about 25 others. Here are the results.
In about two hours we depart for a 112 mile road stage, it has been pissing rain all morning and, well yea... The Weather Channel just showed video from a Tornado an hour and a half away, yikes!
