80 miles...before the race starts

Last Saturday was a solid day at the office. My coaches had me do 80 miles with one major climb, the day of the Arkansas State Crit Championships. Ben took me on a beautiful loop starting and finishing in Conway, AR with Petit Jean mountain in middle. After doing the 80 miles, we headed over to the crit course where it began to rain cats and dogs, literally. With only nine guys on the start line I didn't think it would be such a tough race, then I realized there were 5 Mercy rider, 3 BMC riders and me. Yep, I was the only one flying solo. I covered the first few attacks by each team then I was blown. Some older guy rode away from us and ended up lapping me twice, which was by design so my race would be over two laps sooner. Then I got my first ever Lantern Rouge, by getting dead last! haha, at least I had a heck of a work out and won a sweet old school wool longsleve jersey on a preme lap.
