New England Speed Week

I'm up here in New England for some long overdue racing with my team. We are taking part in a series of races ramping up to the Fitchburg Classic which is on July3-6th. Saturday night we did an NRC crit in downtown Providence, RI. The course was exactly one mile with a pretty solid power climb each lap, for 50 laps. I felt really good and finished up 30th, the last spot in the money! Both Anthony and Matt were in early breaks going for the gold, but both were brought back so they finished in the pack with me.

Sunday we did a 52 mile circuit race in downtown Newton, MA. The call-up for for the riders at the start was one of the most impressive I have ever heard for a race I'm in. We had multiple Giro d'Italia finishers, Paris-Roubaix riders, world champions, current 2008 USA Olympic team members and about 10 other solid guys. The race went up Heartbreak hill (from the Boston Marathon) 20 times. The rain began with 7 laps to go, so I pulled out because of dozens of manhole covers and cracks in the road, not to mention sketchy riders. Anyway, my real race begins on Thursday at Fitchburg so I didn't want to begin that with roadrash. Well, they end up calling the race off two laps after I pull out (lightening) so that kinda sucks, but hey I could have crashed and been screwed, plus I didn't feel good. Yep, I said it.

Marcus ended up getting 9th after a break was off the front, so he is buying our beer tonight.
