Tulsa Tough gets better for the old N-Dog.
My warm up on Saturday began by breaking my seatpost and seat 15 minutes before the start, wow, that is exactly what happened at collegiate nationals and I had to switch to an entirely new bike. THANKS A MILLION to Jose at Sram neutral support for getting me a smokin hot bike with Zipp 404's to race the next two days. I got used to the Sram quickly and the bike worked out well..........
Saturday's crit was mucho better than the previous nights. I stayed towards the front third and was able to drill it on the front for a few laps and begin chasing down some breaks. Once those were caught I followed the next and ended up in a five man break about 15 seconds off the front for six laps or so. While in that group I picked up a just before we got caught, so that was timed really well and I need some lunch money. Stefan rode really hard as usual, as did Bam Bam and the rest of the team.
Sunday's final crit was by far the hardest course which included a climb that was best to little ring each of the 40 or so laps. At the top was one of the best cheering sections I have seen in American racing that included an Elvis impersonator, an over sized mirror ball like on a dance floor, a man in underwear and a cape, super soaker's and garden hoses to keep us cool and a keg and BBQ. Fhew, that was a mouth full. A guy broke his collar bone right in front of me after not seeing another fallen rider and hitting his bike like we was going for the big air contest at the X-Games. He would have won the contest by the way. On the last lap of the 80 minute suffer fest I was able to move up about 15 spots to what I believe was my best finish of the weekend, still not results posted yet though.
