Tour of the Gila
Part 2
Part 2
Up, down, up, average. That was the race for me today. We had a 30 lap crit in downtown Silver City. I got my name on the announcements early by forgetting to sign in for the day, luckily they didn't fine me or make me move from my awesomely cool front row position of the 75 man field. Once we started I found my self in a 5 man break that had up to 20 seconds on the chasing field. While rotating I started to fall off the back until I heard the bell for a $70 preme the next lap. I caught back on, past the break and won the cash money money money solo. Then.... I fell off and was back in the main pack, oh well mission accomplished. Wiht two laps to go I moved up to the front and finished 13th overall. The break stayed away, those guys were all super stong.
Frank and I went back out to watch the pro crits. My old coach, Brice Jones (Jelly Belly) earned the win today! nice work. Health Net was on the front most of the day protecting their overall race leader Nathan O'neill. The women rode strong too with a break of about 6 staying away for the finish, I don't recall the winner, no I'm not sexist.
Tomorrow is the Gila Monster stage. 102 miles, lots of climbing, hard. Thanks for reading.
