NEW Base Training Methods
Send in your personal pictures to be posted here!

I know a lot of people are riding base right now and have their specific ways of doing it. Some ride 25-30 hours a week never seeing that little heart beat more than 150 times/minute. Some just go out and rage it for 13 hours a week. Some go to a coffee shop. Ok, here is my official plan that has been in the works for a month now.

When riding normally on the road there is a 1:1 ratio of riding to actual training time. The key is to do little tricks or jumps to boost riding time. Whenever you bunny hop (jump the bike) over road kill it is a 3:1 ratio, which means you just rode three minutes longer than you lame buddy next to you. Here is a complete list, for now:
  • Jumping roadkill - 3 minutes
  • Jumping anything alive - 5 minutes
  • Riding a wheelie over five seconds - 2 mintues
  • Riding up/off a curb - 2 minutes
  • Riding the skate park on a ROAD bike* - 6 minutes
  • Jumping a downed mailbox - 3 minutes
  • Sweet skid - 2 minutes
  • Mid-ride break at the coffee shop - Each minute there equals 5 minutes!
So now you can go out and ride in the time it takes to play a typical football game but record it as a seven hour ride if you have mad skills. You may have to introduce this to your coaches but it's all the rage in the Pro Tour as well. Do you really think Robbie McEwen rides wheelies on the Arc de Triumph for no reason?

Please send in any and all pictures of you riding "Noah's Base" and they will be put on the site. Email them to noahman2@gmail.com

*Wear a crash cap.

Here is Dicky Dub earning a two minute bonus on his ride. I'd say he gets a few extra minutes for finding a place to ride in January with out leg warmers on.
